Forsyth Central High School
Soccer Booster Club Meeting
October 14, 2009
The meeting began at 6:30 p.m.
The President, Christine Freese introduced herself as well as the other board members to the attending parents. Also introduced were the Committee Chairpersons:
Janet Hitchings – Meals for away games
David Tobin – Monthly newsletter for the new season
Susan Arpin – Website Coordinator
Rhonda Abraham – Concessions
Nancy Carlson – Fundraising/Scholarships
The President emphasized the following to the parents:
Volunteers for the new 2009-2010 season would be needed; one family member for ever JV player and one family member for every Varsity player. Players’ parents are responsible for checking in with the coach on where their help is needed. Volunteer responsibilities include monitoring the game clock, providing ball retrievers, assisting in concessions. Back-up volunteers are recommended in case regulars do not show up.
Follow-up with Coaches to ensure they have enough first-aid for players.
Booster Club is responsible for everything prior to games with the exception of the announcers. Varsity teams will have professional announcers.
President Freese advised the parents about the end of year banquet. Last year was a success with each player’s family bringing one food item or one dessert item.
President Freese acknowledged that the economy is challenging and that disposable income is minimal. She explained to the parents the cost cutting measures being taken to extend available funds and provide students with the maximum benefits:
Varsity teams – New uniforms are provided every 3 years. The old ones are passed down to the Junior Varsity players.
The player fee for Season 2009-2010 will be the same ($250.00) for both Varsity and Junior Varsity players. Compared to other school/recreational sports, this fee is reasonably priced.
Last year, warm-up apparel and duffel bags were provided for the teams. In order to keep expenses low, players were asked to return the warm-ups at the end of the season.
President Freese announced that the goal of the Booster Club is to have $5,000 - $6,000 available every 3 years for team uniforms. She explained that a portion of the $250 player fee is set aside for third year expenses. The Booster Club also provides players with a practice t-shirt, 2 pairs of socks, all practice balls and game balls. This year, for safety purposes, the budget includes athletic trainers at the J.V. games
All meals for the away games are provided.
She also explained the different levels of the Player Fee Pay down Program:
Nancy Carlson discussed the Krispy Kreme doughnut pre-sale, and the butcher package
This year, two additional scholarships have been added, making a total of 4 scholarships.
President Freese emphasized that all of the provisions are contingent upon the budget and prioritized as follows:
Medical
Training
Meals
The President called attention to the sponsors, reminding everyone that it is important for them to be recognized.
President Freese also discussed volunteer events to include players as well as parents. She explained that this is a way to give back to the community
Clean-up after Lighting of the Tree at Northside Hospital in December
Breast Cancer – Soccer for Cure Program. Colors will be chosen to identify different cancers. Players will wear the color of the cancer they are sponsoring.
President Freese asked the parents if they had any questions. She also stated that the goal of the Booster Club is for parents to have to sign fewer checks on signing night.
The logo for the player t-shirt was presented:
“Winners don’t wait for chances …they take them!”
Tryouts begin February 1st, 2010. Prior to tryouts, conditioning program will be announced.
Teams will be posted Friday after tryouts begin.
